The information you'll find on this page about the Moralt family is based on the results of the investigation of the researcher Albert Aschl. He published the results in his book "Die Moralt, Lebensbilder einer Familie".
With the kind permission of his son Dr. Albert Aschl we have used the results and the pictures out of the above mentioned book. Quoting " roughly" from the preface of his book Mr. Albert Aschl wrote:
"Some years before World War II coincidence gave me some information about the fate of the musician at the Hof Kapelle in Munich, August Moralt and this was the reason for me to do some additional research. The first researches in the Bavarian "Hauptstaatsarchiv" in Munich showed piles of personnel documents, which took me weeks and month to work through. There was still a big pile of documents to sift through when World War II started in September 1939 and obliged me to doing tasks quit different than family research and depicting the individual fates of their members."
After World War II Albert Aschl took up his research work again under most disagreeable conditions and succeeded in putting together bit after bit of the Moralt family history. And all this was done alongside his professional career. He says: "The members of the Moralt family have been evacuated and dispersed and many documents have been destroyed in the wake of the war. Under the given circumstances I had to limit my investigations on the family trees which lived in Germany, especially in Bavaria. All the more as the connection of these family trees with the Moralts of Locarno is unquestionably and doing investigations in Locarno-Muralto would have gone beyond my possibilities."
He continues..."I have tried to follow each small trace and to use all resources given despite the worse times and circumstances. Some sources which normally are not available for family research where kindly opened for me and many family researchers have answered my letters and have given me valuable hints. I am sorry that the Musikalische Akademie in Munich could not decide to help me or to answer my requests, probably their documents could have added the odd detail which might have additionally highlighted my researches on the Moralt family. Thus having spent a quarter of a century at collecting data and doing thorough research work I am convinced only coincidence may add substantially new information to the Moralt family history.".
Heinz Hofmann and Hans Joerg Rall we are descendants of the Moralt family and have met coincidentally on the Internet. We want to present the work of Albert Aschl and the history of the artists family Moralt to other interested people. May be we will meet other descendants which can add the one or other unknown detail to the Moralt family history.
